Samantha Ediker - Group 2: Caravaggio

Caravaggio

Looking more into the more traditional fine art works, I stumbled across Michelangelo Caravaggio the Italian Casanova of the 16th Century. He was a controversial man in his day but his work stayed mostly traditional in techniques with a tiny bit of his rebellion thrown into his characters.

The reason I , like many others even today, find his work so captivating is his fantastic use of light and shade, he had an overwhelming grasp of the tones within his work and fully exploited that by drawing his figures with dramatic contrasts to their backgrounds.
